BIM – Building Information Modeling – is an emerging tool in JDRM Engineering’s day-to-day operations. By helping our clients to envision their facility’s design and operations, BIM fosters understanding, reduces surprises and takes the unknowns out of the design process. When utilized by the entire construction team BIM ensures trade coordination, provides early conflict detection and simplifies conflict resolution. In simpler terms, BIM shows us when initial design concepts would have had plumbers placing pipes through structural steel or major conduit through the same space the return air ducts need to be placed. By combining all of the design elements — architectural, structural, electrical, mechanical, plumbing, etc. — into one model JDRM’s engineers can adjust the design and construction documents, saving time, money and frustration.
JDRM Engineering’s BIM capabilities using the Revit format were used in the engineering of two world-class projects, the 200,000 square foot La-Z-Boy World Headquarters in Monroe, Michigan and the 66,000 square foot University of Toledo Simulation Center, an inter professional immersive educational environment. Our first major (70,000 sq. ft.) BIM project was the ProMedica Health System Wildwood Orthopaedic Hospital.
