Sylvania Branch – Toledo-Lucas County Public Library

"Our Sylvania Branch is not only a shining example of how the Toledo Lucas County Public Library is re-imagining itself, but of how Libraries impact and transform their neighborhoods and communities." Benjamin Malczewski, Branch Manager

The Sylvania Branch Library was originally built in 1960, remodeled in 1987 and by 2017 the 4,000 square foot library was again outdated, not functioning optimally and needed to be renovated again. With JDRM Engineering’s help the updated library includes space for project work, meeting rooms, a quiet reading lounge with a fire place, and an entirely new look. The library now serves the community as a functional meeting, research and gathering place with collaborative work areas for local businesses, students and families.

JDRM Engineering provided complete project design services including Electrical, Mechanical and Technology Engineering,

Mechanical

The mechanical systems were replaced with new more efficient systems to reduce energy costs and provide comfort for the new uses of the spaces. The HVAC system consists of constant volume packaged rooftop units specific to particular zones, and baseboard radiation served by new high-efficiency condensing boilers. The system incorporates zone dampers to provide individual control to the meeting spaces and study rooms.

Electrical

The lighting was replaced with indirect LED lighting, and RGB LED lighting in the Children’s Interactive Area. An automated lighting control system maximizes efficiency. A new MDP and branch panels provided power throughout the building, including USB charging receptacles, interactive monitors, public access touch screens, self-checkout stations, and a 3D printer.

Technology

Structured cabling supports public and staff networks, both wired and wireless. Dedicated network cabling was installed for security and surveillance systems and JDRM provided the layout of surveillance camera locations as well as the raceways for security and surveillance systems. Paging notices are easily heard throughout the building and our services also provided raceways to support audiovisual needs in the public meeting rooms. Additionally, JDRM worked with the library architect to support kiosks, book drops, and more in support of library functions.
